Introducing Master Rickson Gracie's first-ever Jiu-Jitsu instructional videos
Module 1 of Self.Defense.Unit presents 21 classic self-defense techniques, plus invisible Jiu-Jitsu -- that is, the concepts and details refined over Rickson's forty years of teaching and fighting experience.
In this course, you will learn much more than just how to defend against aggression. You will understand what the best strategy is for dealing with a given situation, and how important timing is. You will see the importance of connecting with base, and where the best lever can be found for a given position.
Every lesson in Module 1 is taught directly by Master Rickson Gracie.
If you have never trained Jiu-Jitsu and want to discover a strength you never thought you had, want to become able to defend yourself, gain self-control and learn to be calm in critical situations, there's nothing better than learning the fundamentals of this martial art from someone who has spent his whole life understanding and perfecting it.
If you train Jiu-Jitsu, you're going to have the chance to learn how to deal with unpredictable situations that go beyond Jiu-Jitsu as a sport, and perfect your knowledge related to what Rickson believes is the key to efficiency in Jiu-Jitsu: base, leverage, weight distribution, strategy and timing.
Each practical lesson presents an in-depth video where Rickson teaches, for the first time in history, invisible Jiu-Jitsu. This video enables the teacher to teach each move to a student of any gender, age and physical capacity. And it clears up questions a more advanced practitioner may have about the most efficient way to execute the position.
Rickson earned the black belt from his father, Helio Gracie, at eighteen. For two decades, he reigned as Jiu-Jitsu's absolute champion. He moved to America in 1989 to help his brother Rorion establish their first Jiu-Jitsu academy in California. Gracie won Japan’s premier fighting tournament, the Japan Open Vale-Tudo, in 1994 and 1995, both times submitting three opponents in a single night. He returned to Japan to submit Nobuhiko Takada in 1997 and 1998, and Masakatsu Funaki in 2000. After retiring undefeated in 2006, Rickson focused on spreading the essence of Jiu-Jitsu, and he is currently the president of the Jiu-Jitsu Global Federation. Module 1 of Self.Defense.Unit marks his first time producing video lessons.
Each practical lesson from Module 1 is delivered across two videos:
1. In the first video, meant for beginners and non-practitioners, Rickson executes the position and explains the walkthrough in a simple manner so the practitioner can execute it as well. He also anticipates the most common problems and tells you how to deal with them.
2. In the second video, meant for teachers and advanced practitioners, Rickson explains invisible Jiu-Jitsu. He teaches, in depth, what the hidden elements of each position are, and how to execute the position with maximum efficiency.
In the theoretical lessons, Rickson teaches the principles of Strategy, Timing, Base, Connection and Leverage -- and, chiefly, the importance of applying these principles also away from the mats, in your daily life.
