Next Saturday (May, 14, 2015) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu powerhouse Fabricio Werdum will face Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight championship.
Now many can take as granted Werdum's status as one of the best heavyweights in the MMA history, but it's worth to remember that, on June 26, 2010, when Werdum entered the Strikeforce cage in San Jose, CA to face Russian Emelianenko Fedor, the odds were all against him.
Fabricio couldn't care less about being the underdog back then. He also didn't think too much about Fedor's streak of 28 fights without a loss. Confident on his BJJ skilss, he set up a terrific triangle attack and finished the fearsome Fedor in about one minute (1'09'' to be accurate).
Since then, Werdum accumulated a record of eight fights and seven victories. He not only got an invitation to get back to the UFC, but also earned the event most prestigious title, the heavyweight belt.
As we get into Werdum's fight week, Graciemag celebrates that night, nearly six years ago. Our vehicle was well represented cage-side by photographer Mike Colón, who was able to shoot these memorable scenes. #BrazilianJiuJitsu #UFC
