"Self-defense is paramount. But there comes a moment when things get mixed up. Both competitive BJJ and self-defense. Which in reality are one and the same. But there comes a moment when, after a few months that you're practicing, that you are fighting another guy who knows BJJ like you. So you start developing skills and reflex that also become a sort of self-defense. There isn't competitive BJJ and self-defense; they're the same. The strong BJJ fighter must have that outlook."
