The 2017 World Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship has come to a close, but the great matches fought are alive and well in our minds.
The last of four days of competition hosted the black belt adult contests, with Marcus Buchecha coming out as the big victor. The Checkmat star tied Roger Gracie's ten world titles as he won his fifth ultra-heavy gold and his fifth absolute, in the process increasing the record for number of absolute titles.
There were more big names to marvel at, like young Nicholas Meregali, a rookie black-belt who dethroned Leandro Lo at heavyweight. The U.S.'s Michael Musumeci ended his country's ten years without a black belt podium by beating the light featherweight field.
Bruno Malfacine bumped the roosterweight record to nine world titles. Medium heavyweight André Galvão is now a five-time champion, as is 37-year-old Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles. Lucas Lepri became the first lightweight to win four gold medals. Middleweight Gabriel Arges won his first title, as did super-heavyweight Erberth Santos.
