Three-time world champion Sergio Moraes was one of the great competitors in his generation. Today, the black belt from Alliance is a UFC fighter and shows the same skill in the Octagon. In 2008, after he conquered his first world title, Serginho showed one of the positions used at that Worlds.
Serginho starts the position doing the deep half-guard, and his opponent moves the hips and throws the knee out to try to pass the guard. As his opponent leaves his back exposed, Sergio hugs his back and now can climb to catch his back or hug to sweep.
The opponent’s leg continues locked on the half-guard and the leg is still exposed; Sergio decides to hug with the left hand his opponent’s waist and pass his right hand between his opponent’s leg until he touches his other hand. Sergio moves the hips up, as if he were doing an armlock, to finish with a leg lock.
