The guard pass known as the Miragaia was developed in the 90s by Renato Miragaia. A student under Roberto “Gordo” Correa, Miragaia, who would achieve world championship at purple and brown, developed the position as a blue belt. Today, his technique is still used by grapplers worldwide as it gives a hard time to the guard player.
In this video lesson, four-time world champion Rubens Charles “Cobrinha” teaches a sweep that counters the Miragaia pass. In case you are unable to sweep, Cobrinha offers the option to finish with an armlock.
